Your GP practice will process your referral and send it to the appropriate department at the hospital. This is not always the same day as your initial appointment.
Due to increased waiting times for outpatient appointments, we have seen a rise in patient requests to “expedite” their appointments or change the status of their referral to urgent. We are also finding that patients are often requested by the Hospital to obtain a letter from the GP so their appointment can be expedited.
We are unable to update the status of your referral to urgent or write letters to expedite your appointment for reasons such as long wait times.
If you are experiencing worsening of your symptoms, we advise you to complete an E-consult on our website home page but this will not guarantee an expedited appointment. Please provide a brief description of change in symptoms since your original referral was made where it will be reviewed by a clinician.
We would advise all our patients awaiting hospital appointments to be patient and wait to be contacted.
We are not notified of any waiting times for clinics nor provided with hospital hotline numbers. If your appointment has been delayed, please contact the hospital appointment line for any updates or the contact number shown above.
