Important Update: Changes to Repeat Prescription Ordering

Starting the 2nd of November 2026

We are introducing a trial of a new way of managing regular repeat prescriptions at the surgery. The aim is to make ordering medication easier and more convenient for patients, while helping us improve our processes and move towards a more paperless service.

What is changing?

We will be moving towards a system where our team proactively arranges patients' regular repeat prescriptions, reducing the need for patients to remember to request their medication each time.

Although the process will become more automated, our team will remain involved in managing repeat prescriptions, and the usual medication reviews and necessary safety checks will continue.

What do I need to do?

For the first three months, please continue ordering your repeat medication as you normally do. This initial period will allow us to check medication records, quantities and ordering dates to help ensure the new process works safely and effectively.

We will provide further information when the trial has been reviewed and we are ready to make any further changes.

What if I need medication that is not on my regular repeat list?

Only medication included on your regular repeat prescription will be covered by the new process.

Occasional or non-repeat medication must still be requested through Anima, providing relevant information about why you need it.

If you need a repeat prescription earlier than expected because your medication has been lost, your prescription has not reached the pharmacy, or you are going on holiday, please submit a request through Anima so our team can review it.

Why are we making this change?

We recognise that remembering to order regular medication can sometimes be difficult. By moving towards a more proactive system, we hope to make everyday life easier for patients, improve the organisation of prescription requests and provide a more convenient service.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation while we trial this change.

Please continue ordering your repeat medication as normal until we advise you otherwise.

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

We are becoming a paperless surgery so we are politely asking patients not to use paper prescription requests.

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone or email.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

For any queries regarding your medication you can call the surgery and speak with Andi who will take down your query and forward it to the relevent person or you can speak to a receptionist but be aware that due to high demand there may be a delay in your call being answered. You can also complete an Anima which you can find on the NHS app or our website home page. 

 

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you have a telephone appointment with a clinical pharmacist for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need a review.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from please do not bring it to the surgery.

Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
